World Building Friday Part I

Yep! Trolls and humans are both in the milky way! They are in fact still in a single galaxy to this day. Arguably humans might have made the jump to another galaxy, but unfortunately Alternian technology doesn’t really support the sheer distance between galaxies.

To give you an idea, even our closest neighbors outside the milky way are a million times farther away than any distance between solar systems within our own galaxy. Thats an unimaginable distance, but you also have to consider just how huge the milky way is. There are 200 to 400 billion stars in the milky way and nearly that many planets. The humans and trolls had huge empires, but frankly not even half the milky way has been explored.

Pinching space would have maybe allowed humans to jump to other galaxies, but human technology is very quickly dying and even if it weren’t it’s hazy on if the technology could be stretched to such an insane distance.

Earth is effectively a giant factory/production planet. It’s controlled heavily by trolls and used to produce the fuel for the Alternian warmachine and species. It’s not really a great place to live, but arguably its better than living on Alternia as a human.

In Blackbird specifically Karkat only fills a quadrant with Dave. If I tell the story after Blackbird, he would in fact fill other quadrants, but I won’t say what because its rather spoiler-y.

Tease and taunt the shit out of trolls, start fights, practice.

Practice.

Practice.

Taunt Eridan. (see Steadily Emerging With Grace, events like that are relatively common.)

He spends time with the humans, hes not particularly antisocial. Hes just very mellow when everybody else tends to be a little high strung and stressed. A lot of the times he’ll tell stories to some of the native-alternian humans about what humanity was like as a society.

Grandpa Harley is just Grandpa English in this. All the alpha kids are just guardians in this. You won’t see Dirk, Roxy, Jake, or Jane in this in their young incarnations.

It’s world building Friday for Blackbird!

It’s been a really rough week for me guys, some blackbird asks would be awesome!

I’ll be home to answer them at 8:00 pm est!

World Building Friday Part II

I mentioned earlier that he has trouble with dates because Alternia follows an entirely different calendar. So he doesn’t really have an anniversary for Bro’s death, and honestly these days he tries very hard not to think about everything that happened to get him where he is really.

Its best to just think in present, at least if he wants to survive.

Um, do you mean like the most recent canon? Like the stuff with the Baroness and the outlawing of human reproduction except via ..troll methods?

Yeah er, no. Its not like canon at all. Humans breed like humans. They’re treated like livestock in that aspect. Its a little uncomfortable to talk about, to be honest. But there’s breeding stock and fertile woman are bred with men for selected appearances or genes.

Personal owned humans are sometimes bred like you would thorough-bred horses or  dogs.

There’s nothing happy about being a human on alternia. You’re property. Your feelings are ancillary.

Haha, no not really. If there are any shout outs to canon it’ll be just tiny things here and there.

Its pretty far diverged. For example:

Sollux <3 Equius might be a thing.

Humanity. Trollkind has the benefit of much larger and considerably faster generation cycles. ( lowbloods live fast and die fast) So not by a whole long, but Humans are the older species.

Yes. They’re basically what you imagine. Troll ships are named often after famous ancestors, or forgotten cities on alternia. Human ships are traditionally named after concepts or famous events.

Troll ship:

The Dualscar

Human ship:

P.D. Liberty

The P.D. stands for pinch drive on human ships. The method of propulsion is denoted mostly as a tradition for human ships, as the pinch drive is the only space faring engine used by humans.

World Building Friday Part I

Oh my gosh, I don’t even know how old this ask is. I found it buried and I feel so guilty for not noticing it sooner! Gamzee’s clothing is mostly inspired by 1700s and 1800s imperialist military regalia. Specifically something like a mash between French and British.

Uh, arguably not really. You don’t seem them getting killed often because they’re expensive, but its not uncommon for harsh physical punishment. Humans are ‘treated’ like cattle, but in reality they’re just property. They have the same laws applied to them as property.

You’d get more in trouble for hurting someone else’s human without their permission. You get in no trouble for what you do to your own.

Its socially acceptable to pail a human. Its not legal to fill a imperial drone’s filial pail with one and in fact is highly illegal for a human to be a part of official quadrants at all. Not that this really stops trolls, they just try not to get caught.

Its illegal as fuck, but its not well enforced? Basically unless your caught red handed filling a proper filial pail with human genetics, you can kinda slip under the radar.

That being said, pailing a human is common as fuck. (There’s a lot of human DNA swimming around in the incestuous slurry despite the laws.) But filling a quadrant properly is actually rather odd, its very rare. The general consensus is that humans aren’t smart enough for quadrants. Like trolls are aware they’re intelligent but only ‘just enough’, this is reinforced really by the fact that humans aren’t taught anything beyond their stations.

So they do appear arguably stupid and cow’d, once a blue moon though you’ll see a troll grasp the fact that humans are just as intelligent as they are. (I.E. Kanaya and Rose.)

Or its more common that a troll will fall in black/red love with a off-world human, who proves time and time again their wit. (I. E. Eridan and Dave)

Dave doesn’t really celebrate his birthday. Its hard to pinpoint human dates as perigees are a lot different than months and sweeps are double the length of a year. He can only sort of guesstimate when his birthday would be about, but really he’s just kinda given up on it and just ages him by the halfway marks.

Or more commonly in the point of time that blackbird takes place in, he just thinks of his age in troll sweeps.

I’m not sure I understand the question anon, what do you mean when you say:

An announcement.

napalmarts:

My computer has decided it doesn’t want to work. This leaves me with an IPad and a laptop that is not my own and does not have any of my files.

I can not confirm when I will be back to regular activity on things like blackbird and my rp blog. I’m praying it’s fixed sooner rather than later, but this is just a heads up.

Sorry guys.

Warnings: vague violence.

You can read it here or on: AO3
